Direct thermal labels are a sticker meant for a specific printing process to add text and images to the label. These words and images are formed on the labels because they are heat-sensitive. Direct thermal printers use the correct temperature heat to make the design on the sticker. There is no ink involved. For these stickers to work, all you need is a heat-sensitive label and a direct thermal printer.

These are the types of labels that you would use when making stickers for barcodes, shipping labels, food for take-out or delivery, and so much more. Every time you go into Starbucks and your name gets put onto a sticker on your cup, that’s direct thermal printing on direct thermal labels! While direct thermal labels are cost-effective and great for producing in large quantities, they are not meant to be long-term labels. They fade quickly in the sun and don’t survive well in the heat. They must be used for short periods and not in harsh environments. That’s what makes them perfect for the side of a drink or a quick shipping label.
